for winning Top Dog for a second time!
Welcome to Top Dog 2023. Seventeen Litchfield restaurants are serving special dogs July 14-17 and those who bite the dogs get to vote and choose “the wiener,” which will be announced on July 19 (National Hot Dog Day) at the evening concert on the Green.
This is the 3rd annual Top Dog contest, sponsored by the Litchfield Economic Development Commission. Here’s how Top Dog works: Participating restaurants — see list below — create special hot dogs for the contest, some traditional and some very creative.

Visit Litchfield CT, an initiative of the EDC, is the official “dog pound” for all things Top Dog related. Our website, Facebook page, and Instagram account will be howlin’ with info, updates, and Top Dog photos.
Gooseboro Drive-In was the first winner in 2021 when the popular roadside spot presented a suite of four dogs: The Double Cheese Chili Dog, a 10-inch Hummel hot dog topped with homemade chili, American cheese, and cheese sauce; the Famous Hot Dog, a 6-inch Hummel natural casing hot dog topped with homemade Famous Relish, sauerkraut, and pickle slices; The Red Hot, a Hummel Red Hot hot dog split, grilled, and topped with sweet red pepper relish and chopped onion; and The New Yorker, a 10-inch, all-beef hot dog topped with New York style “cart sauce.”
Jackie’s claimed barking rights last summer with The Bantam Mash Dog,featuring grilled house made mashed potatoes, bacon, scallions, and cheddar cheese on a foot-long Hummel hot dog served on a grilled bun.
Top Dog contest voters can also enter their email address on the voting form for a chance to win a Litchfield “picnic on the Green” blanket and hat. Entrants must be 18 years or older, and the emails shared will be added to the subscriber list for our Visit Litchfield CT weekly email newsletter.
