Litchfield is getting ready to celebrate the Fourth of July with pre-holiday weekend fireworks and lots of patriotic events on Independence Day, including the charming Litchfield Historical Society Pet Parade. Don’t miss out.
The Litchfield CT Park & Recreation summer celebration that concludes with fireworks to celebrate Independence 
Day takes place June 27 at Plumb Hill Middle School, beginning at 6 p.m. There will be music by Southern Voice from 7 to 9 p.m., as well as a food truck, ice cream truck, and a bounce house. It looks like spaces are still available on the Park & Rec website, https://litchfieldct.myrec.com/info/default.aspx The cost is $10 for residents and $20 for non-residents. Each year on July 4th, the Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter Inc., DAR Litchfield, CT and Sons of the American Revolution gather at East Cemetery on Route 118 to honor Gov. Oliver Wolcott, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Colonel Benjamin Tallmadge, George Washington’s spymaster, and other patriots buried there. The First Litchfield Artillery fires its cannon in their honor, and the Sons of the American Revolution fire their muskets. American Legion Post 44 Bantam, Connecticut is honoring a Revolutionary War hero as its July Veteran of the Month on Saturday, July 5th, at 1o a.m. at the All-Wars on Route 202. On July 4 at 10 a.m., the Litchfield Historical Society is offering a Heroes of the Revolution walking tour. The tour
lasts approximately an hour and begins at the Litchfield Historical Society (7 South Street). It’s free for historical society members and $10 for non-members. Registration is online here: https://bit.ly/45X9VPr The historical society’s charming and popular Pet Parade event takes place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 4 in the Tapping Reeve Meadow at 82 South Street. It’s free and pet registration is requested (but not required). https://bit.ly/43LkmnW The 27th Annual 4th of July Pet Parade welcomes all pets – dogs, cats, pigs, parakeets, snails, or stuffed animals – for the Independence Day Celebration. Bring your pet to the judge’s booth before joining the parade around 3:00. After the award ceremony, everyone can enjoy old-fashioned amusements, including sack races, tug-of-war contests, a photo booth, and an ice cream social. Pets must be on a leash or in a cage, and if applicable, must be up to date with immunizations. Parade registration begins at 2:15.
