📖 Thursday, June 18 @ 6:30 PM | Reading the Declaration of Independence
Join local historian and author Peter Vermilyea at the Litchfield History Museum for a guided reading and respectful dialogue about what our founding document really says.
Cost: Free (Donations appreciated; registration requested).
 
🏡 Sunday, June 21 @ 1:00 PM | Architecture of Litchfield Walking Tour
Discover how old Litchfield’s history and stories are preserved in the stunning architecture of our town center. Meet at the Litchfield Historical Society museum.
Cost: Free for LHS members / $10 non-members.
 
🥁 Saturday, June 27 @ 1:00 PM | Special America 250 Fife & Drum Performance!
Head over to the Litchfield Town Green (1 North Street) for a magnificent musical tribute to our heritage! Enjoy a very special dual performance by the Colchester Continental Fife & Drum Corps and the Marlborough Jr. Ancient Fife & Drum Corps.
Cost: Free for all!
 
🎆 Friday, June 26 @ 6:00 PM | “Happy 250th Birthday America” Celebration & Fireworks!
The big town bash at Plumb Hill Middle School! Live music by Avenue Groove (7-9 PM), food trucks, bounce houses, balloon artists, birthday cake, and a massive fireworks display at dusk.
Note: Parking passes are still available via www.litchfieldparkandrec.com ($15 residents / $25 non-residents).
 
👟 Wednesday, July 1 @ 12:00 PM | Independence Week: Heroes of the Revolution Walking Tour (Also July 3)
A special, completely free weekday tour exploring how Litchfield’s residents—young and old—shaped the founding of the nation.
 
🇬🇧 Friday, July 3 @ 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Crown Troops on the Litchfield Green!
Be on the lookout at the Town Green (1 North Street) for His Majesty’s 23rd Regiment of Foote and the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. (Also July 4th, 10:00 AM – 1:15 PM)
 
🥁 Saturday, July 4 | The Independence Day Lineup
10:00 AM @ All Wars Memorial (Bantam): Join American Legion Post 44 for a special Veteran of the Month Ceremony honoring Green Mountain Boy Daniel Warner, who was killed at the Battle of Bennington in 1777.
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM @ Bantam Borough Hall: Step back in time with the Bantam Historical Society Archive Exhibit.
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM @ East Cemetery: Join the Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter Inc., DAR Litchfield, CT and the Oliver Wolcott Sr. Branch CTSAR to salute Col. Benjamin Tallmadge (Washington’s Spy Master) and Governor Oliver Wolcott, Sr. (our local Signer of the Declaration). Features a musket salute from the SAR Color Guard and powerful cannon fire from the First Litchfield Artillery Regiment.
1:15 PM – 2:00 PM @ Town Green: The First Litchfield Artillery’s traditional “Let Freedom Ring” ceremony, featuring a 13-cannon salute honoring the original colonies.
9:00 PM @ Bantam Lake: Cap off Independence Day with the Bantam Lake Protective Association’s fireworks show over the water. Prime viewing is at the Morris Town Beach—grab your spot early!
 
👟 Sunday, July 5 @ 1:00 PM | Heroes of the Revolution Walking Tour (Post-4th Edition)
Keep the patriotic spirit going with a final weekend look into our town’s deep Revolutionary War ties. Cost: Free for members / $10 non-members.
